UK is in the EU but have such a strong currency they wanted to keep it, newer members are required to make certain economic steps and changing to Euro doesn't happen immediately.

Nations that do not wish to join, do so because they see no advantage in it (ie. wealthy nations) Others, on the periphery of Europe may not meet the requirements to join yet..but wish to. There are two that you'd really expect to be in given their geographic location that aren't. These are Switzerland..you know in the movies all the shady characters keeping their money in swiss bank accounts..and they have many high dollar products..watches, chocolate..They are doing find on their own. Also Norway..because of the North Sea oil...it's an important resource and they have most of it in their territorial waters.

By the way: UK is a political state (country) made up of the regions of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
