I asked an earlier question about who has trouble with cysts and their pain. I had a check up today and am going back for a sonogram because I have a big tender area most likely due to a cyst. I'm worried they will have to take it out... my questions are: If you get a cyst removed, does that cause scar tissue that makes conceiving a child harder??

and also: If you get on birth control to help problems with cysts, does that keep any current cysts you have before beginning BC from only growing or will the cyst eventually go away?

thank you!

The theory with the birth control is that it will force those eggs to come on down instead of attaching to the ovary and becoming a cyst.

The possibility with you being able to have a baby after having the cyst removed actually improves.... there is always the possibility of damage to your ovaries etc from having it removed, but in most cases, women are extremely fertile right after having cyst removed (so if you're wanting a baby..... about 3 months after operation would be best time to try)

I had multiple cysts removed at one time, and boom..... fell pregnant on my first attempt after I had been trying 8 years prior to having cysts removed.

Good Luck!

Edit.....
FYI if you do have the cyst removed, the most uncomfortable part of recovery is pain in your shoulder as a result of the gas they pump inside of you to make it easier for them to move around in there.... make sure you have a good heating pad...... most docs forget to tell you about that.

Removal of one ovarian cyst, even if they took the ovary out, will not reduce your ability to have children. The other ovary will just take over, producing an egg every month. { my sister and a friends sister both had ovaries removed at a young age, and one has 4 and the other 3 kids.}
Depending on what causes your cyst, they may reduce in size, or go away. I have had several large cysts, and they always went away on their own.
