Oh where do i begin. I grew up in the 80's. as far as songs go, that's hard to say because i really do love most 80's songs. I do remember as a kid watching thriller on TV and being freaked out. the very first song i remember singing to was " our house in the middle of the street". fashion..well the jelly shoes, wearing two pairs of socks. each pair a diff color. rolling up the pant legs. the 80's did produce some great movies. Like the Breakfast club and pretty in pink and who can forget the back to the future movies. remember the laser tag toy? you and your friends wore a vest and you had to try to "shot" them. Cabbage patch kids (those where a hot item) and of course Mario brothers. the 80's was a great decade to grow up in!

I loved everything BUT the fashion of the 80's.
I really love Duran Duran and Simple Minds and almost everything about 80's music (with a few exceptions). TV was a lot more wholesome, but not in a preachy way like it is today. I used to watch Knight Rider, Simon and Simon and Remington Steel with my mom when I was a little kid. I try to think of a little kid watching CSI now, and that's a little unbelievable. I remember watching "A Different World" and thinking how cool everyone on that show was.
When I was younger I used to love the styles that came out in the late 80's: poofy, ruffley skirts, that whole sort of hippie chic that was really popular in the late 80's. I never liked the boxy look, a great example of the boxy look is the dress Molly Ringwald's character makes for the prom in "Pretty in Pink".
As far as movies, I think my favorites are really movies I saw as a kid: Annie, E.T., The Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones, War Games, Brat Pack movies, Cloak and Dagger, The Last Unicorn, The Princess Bride. The list goes on.
There was a strange feeling in the 80's. Even though it was a decade fueled by greed and drugs, in a lot of ways it was a more positive time, and there was a great hopefulness for the future that doesn't exist now. The music was fun and full of drama, even if it was a song that had a point. I think movies were a bit more family oriented, and as a kid I never felt like movies were "dumbed down" for kids. Most of the movies we saw as a family, we all liked and watched again. Now, I really think most family movies are pretty banal. I probably romanticise the 80's a bit, but I'm glad I grew up then, and I really feel like it was a great time to be young.

I like Cydi Lauper and anything from a John Hughes movie soundtrack. My favorite fashions were those baggy sweaters and the short skirts over ankle tights. www.fashion-flashbacks.com/20cen/20cen1980s.html there's a link to an 80's fashion site. Not that you really need one. Look around the store and you'll see 90 percent 80's style because that's all back now. I love the Breakfast Club and Ferris Beuler's Day off.

oh my gosh I LOVE the breakfast club! It was way before my time (I'm a 90s baby) but I LOVE that movie and Sixteen Candles those movies are genius! I loved the fashion too the poofy skirts and big hair was so cute! All of the colors were awesome too. I think the big hair was great. I have really thick long hair and I'd so rock that style lol. The leg warmers were really cute too (thats starting to come back in style too) Madonna & Cydni Lauper had great songs so did Whitney Houston. Also Cher she was so pretty. =D I love the 80s. You should watch that show that comes on VH1 called "I love the 80s"!

Glad youre interested in the 80's. I lived through them. Most the music I liked can be seen on VH1 or heard on sirius 23. The hair was big in the 80's, and there were phases of clothing. parachute pants, camoflage, miami vice suits. levi501 jeans, guess jeans, mini skirts, leather skirts ect... But there was a certain way to wear all these clothes, that was as important as having the clothes. The movies were big budget and awesome too. Micheal J. Fox movies were big as well as Eddy murphy. The breakfast club was huge as well as 16 candles. ET is a great movie. there was a great movie every weekend it seemed, not like the dud movies of today.

The 80's movies are amazing (Breakfast Club, Sweet 16, etc.) and then of course there is A LOT of fun (but I admit cheesy) music. And don't forget the kids shows they had back then...so much better than the cartoons and crap that kids have today! And the style...well, it was also fun. :)

Everything!!! MTV was ACTUALLY "music television", the music scene was awesome...it was actually MUSIC (not like the garbage we have now!) We had better movies then!! The fashion may have been far-fetched, but we still thought it was so cool (remember the side ponytails and using tons of Aqua-Net on your hair?). I'd LOVE to go back to those days! I was happier then.
