Diatoms are protists. Protists are a large varied group of generally single cell organisms that are not "animals, plants or fungi". Protists include protozoa, some algae, etc.

A. No, this is backwards. Golden algae are photosynthetic and almost all of them are unicellular. Certainly, NOT all unicellular photsynthetic organisms are classified as golden algae.

B. Yes. Diatoms are a major component of phytoplankton. They are among the most important gobal primary producers and are an important food source for marine organisms.

C. Yes. Diatomaceous earth is a fossil deposit of diatoms and it has many uses, including the ones mentioned.
