The ITER is being built in France. Fusion is the biggest renewable energy source that can be developed in the future. It will probably solve the energy crisis of electricity, and maybe even global warming.

The following was taken from Wikipedia:

A fusion reactor will heat plasma to temperatures which are ten times those in the core of the sun. Harnessing such extremes in an engineered "bottle" will take many decades, and ultimately may not be practical.[1] An editorial in New Scientist magazine explained that "if commercial fusion is viable, it may well be a century away."[2]

They still haven't been able to generate a fusion reaction that is self supporting, and at present it takes more energy to generate a reaction, than they can get out of it.
