Never heard someone measure a fish without the tail..! Its like measuring a human from head to knees :-) Your fish will grow about 10" maximum given the right conditions.

The Black Moor Goldfish is one of several varieties of Carassius auratus auratus. Goldfish originally came from parts of Asia, Japan, and China but now enjoy worldwide distribution thanks to controlled breeding programs.

The Black Moor Goldfish is of the Veil Tail variety, and has an overall black coloration. Moor varieties have metallic scales. All goldfish are members of the carp group and are generally quite hardy.

The Black Moor Goldfish will do well in a 30 gallon or larger tank with a fine gravel bottom and hardy, cold water plants. Goldfish are diggers and will scatter the fine sand onto leaves, injuring thin and less hardy plants. Roots and well-rounded river rocks are appreciated.

Quick Stats:

Minimum Pond/Tank Size: 30 gallons
Care Level: Easy
Tank Conditions: 65-75°F; pH 6.5-7.5; KH 4-20
Max. Size In Aquarium: Up to 10"
Color Form: Black, Iridescent, Orange
Temperament: Peaceful
Diet: Omnivore
Origin: Asia, China, Japan
Family: Cyprinidae

They can get about 6-8" long (not counting the tail).

Sexing goldfish is rather difficult unless they are several years old and in breeding condition. Here's a site that can help explain it with pictures.

well i don't know about the gender but they can get as big as about 10 inches if you take care of them the right way. but it depends on the size of the tank.
