Sometimes 2 males will fight some over territory or over a mate if there are females in the tank as well. They usually don't do serious damage to each other though.

I have had Gouramis and they are wonderful and beautiful especially the orange one. I had various in a tank and best is to keep a balance. If you have 2 females, then get 2 males, so on and so forth. Now, still males can be alone or females alone, but balance is your best bet yet. I do not have no more fish because the pet shop was selling me fish that they didn't take care of. So first check different pet shops for variety of the Gourami for color and size. Make sure that the tanks at the store are clean, the water is clear and that there are no dead fish floating because dead fish floating will stale the water and bacteria can set in. I learned from some pet experts, that you can tell if your fish have bacteria is by some tiny white scally spots on the sides of the fish and tail fins. Make sure that your tank is always clean, fresh and that the filters are always clean and free of debris. This will keep fish happy, I know because I had a Tin Foil Marbel Angel fish that my husband got me when it was a fry and I had it for 5 years and it grew to be bigger than a silver dollar. One person offered me $300 for it, I said no because I grew it up from a fry to an adult Angel. Good luck.

2 male Gouramis of any species will fight if not given propper space and the propper female distribution. Bettas are a member of the Gourami family, so, whatever you would expect from a Betta, you can pretty much expect from a Gourami. A male and a female would be great with each other.

i have a tank full of male gouramis -- 3 are dwarfs. they pick on each other and do a dance (they form a circle kind of like the way the astrological sign pisces looks) but they chill out after a while.
the one you have has probably already established a territory so if you add anymore you need to rearrange your tank so it confuses the one you already have. you can put it back the way you had it in a couple of days no problem.

You can put any combination of them together but they are aggressive so they will fight. Even males and females will fight with each other since they are territorial. Make sure there are lots of places for each one of them to claim a spot and defend without crossing over into another's territory. The optimum, depending on if you want them to breed or not, is to put one male with a school of females. Good luck!!!!

I think you are doing a great job by asking these questions BEFORE you get the fish! I seem to recall reading that it should be an odd number - typically one male and two females, but I'm not positive.
Here are some great sites that will help you do your research.

They might fight over territories, so I'd suggest to put 1 male to 2 females.

gouramis tend to be kinda aggressive in some situations... Not sure if its males with males or what... Maybe call a local aquarium shop to find out more.

they only will fight with weaker fish than them because my dad has had about 3 gouramis, 4 bettas, and other fish altogether and they all worked out fine... except my little bro fed them and only one gourami survived and now he's my sister's and we bout him a companion catfish and they get along fine!
