Is it necessarily wrong for someone who is 30 to be romantically involved with someone who is 15?

Please don't assume anything based on this question--first I didn't ask about whether something was legal, I asked whether its wrong. If you don't know the difference between legal and moral you shouldn't be answering questions. Second, don't assume anything about my own life based on a question. That just shows me you jump to conclusions and you are probably not very bright. I'm just trying to head-off the nutjobs before they start answering this one.

Um, WBear-you think it's wrong just because you can go to jail for it? Do you think maybe you should take a course in philosophy and ethics sometime?

Kai-"could be" taking advantage of the child? Sure. But I asked if it was "necessarily" wrong. Is that automatically an abusive situation?

Mostly these responses are emotional and they all assume a lot. Not really too impressed with the thinking yet, kids!

Bryce-Why do you assume I mean a 15 year old girl?

Break Me Down-How do you know that the 15 year old doesn't have the same intelligence as the 30 year old? Do you assume that 15 year olds are all stupid? Do you all assume that 15 year olds these days are less experienced? I'm not being very impressed with these answers!

Puck Dat-At last a thoughtful response, I was beginning to think I wouldn't be able to pick a best answer at all!

I met my husband when I was 19, he was 34. So that's pretty much the difference in age between a 15 year old and a 30 year old. I don't think it's the age difference that matters, but rather whether its legal and whether the person is on the same page. Then again, the girl I was at 19 was not the girl I was at 15. At fifteen I was naive and stupid. At 19 I was still naive and stupid but at least by then I had been living on my own for a while and wasn't as impressionable anymore. I am now 24...and the person I am now is completely different than the person I was at 19. So to answer your question even a 15 year old that is very mature for her age still will change a great deal more in character and desires (I don't mean sexual...I mean what the person wants out of life). Obviously I am not addressing the issue of whether or not its legal or not, because we all know it isn't and that 15 year old is jail bait. The issue here is whether they could make a relationship work based on their age differences. I can't speak for everyone else...my grandmother got married in 1939 when she was 16 years old. Her first husband was 34. Expectations were different then and they had a lovely marriage until he passed away 15 years after their marriage. Our society has changed a lot since then...our ideals are different. The basic point is how much in common will a 15 year old have with a 30 year old man nowawadays?

It is EXTREEEEMELY immoral for a 30 year old to be with a 15 year old. Not only that, it's disgusting. A 15 year old has not reached full development. In many cases they've not even been menstruating for that long. And if you look back on your life, when you were fifteen you thought you knew everything, when you're 20 you think man I didn't know what I was talking about. A 30 year old can make an educated decision but a 15 year old's decisions are all based on heart instinct which most often turns out to be wrong.

Yes, a 15 year old does not have the same understanding of a 30 year old. It would be morally wrong. The 30 year old should have the moral sense not to do that to someone who is that much younger then them. It is very, very wrong.

The age difference in itself is what i see to be wrong. The 15 year old has a totally different frame of mind and thinks of things in a different way than the 30 year old would.
I think it is just 2 different worlds there.
now if it was 20 and 35 or 25 and 40 i see no problems what so ever.

It wasn't always illegal. And at one time women couldn't vote. Coca-cola once contained cocaine.
Times change. Rules and mores change.
You have to be careful with this subject or the next thing you know some church group is picketing your house.
It's not legal so I don't think about it but I always wondered about the double standard in that it was wrong for men to be the older one and no one said much about women being the older one until recently when some cases came to national or international attention. Mom was complaining while Dad's in the background giving two thumbs up.
This is an interesting question. You desrve a few stars.

Yes, it's wrong. A 30-year-old is a full-grown adult who has had time to experience relationships and life, in general. A 15-year-old is still a child who doesn't have the maturity to handle the type of relationship a 30-year-old wants. A 30-year-old who "dates" a 15-year-old has some psychological issues..........not to mention any physical activity between them is illegal. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

its really tasteless and gross. how can u compare the mind of a 30 year old to a 15 year old. it so nasty. that 15 year old is not even done growing. any person that is a adult and goes with a child is a pedophile and should be punished and excluded for society. cuz this person is disturbed.it is so disgusting!
its not the age difference, it that the child is not even mentally developed. come on this is a baby.

Yes. a 15 year old is not mature enough to handle the calibur relationship a 30 year old would be interested in. I'm 30, I cannot imagine a more disturbing concept.

2007-06-20 15:53:42 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

It is wrong because the 15 year old is not mature enough to handle a relationship with a 30 year old. It would be too easy for them to be manipulated and taken advantage of.
