You didn't do your homework when hiring the lawyer. All lawyers charge retainers, which means minimum number of hours. That doesn't give them free reign of doing nothing. So you should ask for summary of work that are "billable".

Firing the lawyer just means you will pay another retainer all over. If you think the lawyer is ripping you off, say you want all the work tabulated and threaten to go the local bar association if he shows you none.

Fired yesterday. You have the right to demand to see what he's working on for you. Please remember that you hired him, you are the boss and if he's not doing his job, he can be replaced. And here's some helpful information: The money you paid is a retainer fee. Which means any money that hasn't been used, must be returned. If he's done nothing, you should be getting all of that back. he may bill you for a few phone calls, maybe getting copies of court records, or filing fees, but if he's done nothing more than that, demand it back and let him go. He should at least have a game plan after two months hon.

You have the right to see what you are being charged for. As the lawyer to show you a itemized bill before you pay.

Only $4K? Wow, you got a bargain, how about a royal screwing, paying phsychologists, paying for umpteen depositions, to the tune of $70K, then STILL being made out to be the bad guy, (and an ******)? Dude, cut your losses, make a property agreement and MOVE ON. find a new hobby instead of fighting with your ex.

I'd fire him and turn his *** in to the bar association for not doing a thing for me except to take my money.
