ok i colleced 4 lightning bugs and im watching them. I need to know if they are a female or a male! pls help me out here i need answers now!

That's a pretty good question: you can tell by behavior; as the fellow above says, the males display their flash patterns while flying, and the females are sitting low on branches or weed stems flashing back. But in the hand? I don't think I ever learned that. I'm not sure that there would be an obvious difference, but maybe you could find out by hunting for females in the vegetation (look for a flash on the ground or in a bush) and see if they look different from the males.

the ones that fly around are males the females lay on branches or whatever
