I just bought this house and the lawn is not in good condition. (I live in the Midwest.) I water it twice a day, once in the morning and once after sunset. But it just won't turn green. I tried the weedkiller/fertilizer, but it didn't help much. Here are the pictures of my lawn:

How do I fix it? What exactly is the problem? Thank you very much.

It's burned. Wait until it cools down. Scratch up the dirt, put down grass seed and water, water, water. Good luck.

you have a thatch problem you need to rake all of the dead grass out it's stopping the nutrients from getting below the surface, stop watering after sundown the wet grass over night could get a fungus, give it a good watering for a hour before 10am,Scott's sells a fertilizer that suppose to resolve your problem called green lawn something like that, the main thing is to remove all of that dead grass with a metal rake not a leaf rake,or rent a thatch remover that should help, but when you water do it for at least a hour don't use the weed killer fertilizer it could be killing the grass if it isn't all grass from seed or sod just use a regular fertilizer as i mentioned earlier

From the pictures it looks like you have lots of thatch matted in there (dead grass clippings). You need a good hard raking, and if possible aeration. Rent an aerator machine and aerate the entire area after a hard raking to get that thick dead layer of grass up. That should fix it. If there isn't thatch (it's hard to see) Just keep watering and don't put any more fertilizer. My neighbor burned her grass with fertilizer, and watering daily for a week fixed it. Only mow on the highest setting too.

you need to rake up the dead/yellow stuff and reseed it... then water like crazy.. dont let the yellow stuff sit in the grass....it will kill the existing green .. the yellow will start soaking up the water and turn moldy
