I have a 98 Toyota Avalon XLS and this might sound dumb, but I'm curious what would be normal acceleration for this car(V6,200 HP). Like how many RPMS would I accelerate at to get up to 45 say, what 2000,3000,4000? Thanks

It all depends on how it is geared. I would say 2500rpm for that car. A smaller motor will have to rev a lot higher to accelerate at a "normal" rate of speed. In my 71 Buick Riviera with a 7.5L V8 if I accelerate at 2000rpm i will bark the tires. The car never goes over 2000rpm around town. In my 2000 Toyota 4runner with a 4 cylinder I have to rev to 4500 rpm to accelerate at the same speed i would at 2000rpm in the Buick. And I would still be behind the buick because it is slow off the line.

If the buick were a 10 speed bike, it would take off in 8th gear and maintain its rpm because it has so much more torque. The toyota has to take off in 1st gear and the rider has to pedal fast just to get it moving. Once it gets moving it can go through the gears to catch up with the Buick.

Maximum accelerations (and most fuel used) full throttle - 6000 rpm before you catch the next gear. You will take 4-5 seconds to get to 45.

Maximum fuel economy (and most annoyed drivers behind you), feather the throttle and shift at 1200-1500 rpm. You will take 30-45 seconds to get to 45.

Normal daily driving - 2200-2400. You will take 10-15 seconds to get to 45.

If you have an auto transmission, you don't have to worry about it. Depending on how hard you push down on the gas pedal the car will automatically shift to the next higher gear at the correct rpm level.

If you would have a manual tranny, then it depends on how hard you push on the gas. The faster that you want to accelerate then the higher the rpm before you shift. good luck.

Depending on how fast you want to get to 45. At least 3000 rpm.
