How old is she? In 5th grade students learn about all of that stuff. You could always tell her that you want to take her shopping. Look at other stuff too. Go to any department store, or store that carries all types of clothing. When you guys pass the bras, ask her if she would like one. She probably has already thought about it, but didn't know how to tell you. Tell her that many girls her age are wearing them if she is hesitant. Some stores will have sales people to help you. Otherwise, she will need to find a good fit herself. You could measure her. Measure her chest above her breasts. Then, measure around the fullest part of her breasts. Lets say the first measurement is 34" and the second is 35". She would wear a 34A. You take the first measurement (add 1 inch if it is odd) and that is your number. For the second measurement, 1" more and its an A, 2 inches more and its a B....you get the idea. Most likely, a girls first bra is going to be small...like maybe a 32 or 34 A or even nearly A.

Do you have a mother, sister, Female cousin or a friend that can possibly have this conversation with her. I know from my own personal history (parents divorced mom lived hundreds of miles away) that I would have been horribly embarrassed to have to talk to my dad about this. Also now that I am raising a 13yo dtr I know how private she is about her body. Worse case scenario if no female is available just be straight forward and say "Hey, I think it is time you went bra shopping". Then take her to someplace like Macy's or JC Penney for her first ones. There are female associates in the underwear departments that can show her how to pick the right size.
Best of luck to You.

If she has no mother then this is the moment of truth for you and your daughter. Tell her as matter of factly as you can that she needs a training bra or something. Then explain to her that this is just as new for you as it is for her and beg for her to bear with you as you both take this step into adulthood. At the same time understand that this is going to be as uncomfortable for her as it is for you.
Take her to a store that has women to help her pick one out, get a bra, and maybe stop for some ice cream (or a salad) on the way home and I think you'll be fine.
Remember, she is going to have to rely on you for all sorts of feminine items in the years to come. This is only the beginning.

Well as a father it is going to happen. As soon as possible get her a training Bra or even a sports bra. Then as she grows she will need a real one and go to the store and get her and A 30-32 bra. trust me she doesn't want her dad to tell her that she is Sporuting so go easy on her.

ok, does she have an aunty or anything? if she does, ask if she can tell your daughter and can take her shopping, your daughter will need to get fitted for a bra and will need at least 3
if she doesnt have an aunty or any female relations at all then i suppose you will have to do it, if shes like 12 or 13 you could send her into Big W or something to try some on and give her some money to buy them.

Just take her shopping and tell her she has this much amount of money to spend on underclothes. Take her to the bra section and ask for a sales person. They are really nice when it comes to helping teenagers. Good Luck

take her shopping, have her look at some tank tops with built in bras. find a female friend/family member she trusts and have her pick out a cute/fun one. Usually girls can start with some sort of sports bras which aren't so embarassing if she is shy

Talk to her & tell her that she needs a bra. I hated it when my dad started saying "Hey honey, you need a bra", but I did need it.
If she has a female relative (grandma, aunt, cousin) you may want to get them to help her out. I'd even suggest asking her best friend's mom to take her bra shopping. It's a bit awkward, but trust me- most women are willing to help out in situations such as these. That's what my dad did & I'm glad that he got one of my friends' moms & my grandmother to help me out. You could even try "bribing" the friend's mom by offering to pay for lunch (and your daughter's bras of course) for their outing.

Above suggestions are great. But take her to a shop where they specialize in ladies underwear. The sales ladies there can help fit her properly, and maybe get several to go with different styles of tops
