I'd like to see:
1. Affordable quantum computers.
2. Self-replicating probes colonizing distant worlds.
3. Artificial intelligence that can pass a Turing test.
4. Functional fusion reactors.
5. More third-world countries educated in science.

5. Nuclear fusion - not expected to go mainstream until about 2050
4. Holograms - sooner than you think! Closest estimate is 2030
3. Teleportation - scientists have already succeded at teleporting atoms
2. Traveling At 99% The Speed Of Light - impossible - or not?
1. Transfusion of the power of an amoeba with a human being - a.k.a. AKIRA!
It may have been sci-fi in 1988 but so was the
television a hundred years ago!

I think the greatest scientific feat that would most benefit humanity and is also might be attainable before I die would be that of finding a way to efficiently harness the energy produced by cold fusion. The benefits to all human kind can not be understated.
Secondarily, I would have to say that I would love to see science solve the contradictions between general relativity and quantum physics. I don't think this would have a significant impact on the human condition but it sure would satisfy our curiosity.

What the world needs is low temperature, safe nuclear energy. I think the world should be working on Cold Fusion to make it a viable energy source.

LOL at above answer. There would be too many ppl if no death. But a cure for cancer or heart disease would be nice so ppl could die after living full lives and without being too sick.
