Sydney, Australia
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the main crossing of Sydney Harbour carrying rail, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic water vista of the bridge together with the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of both Sydney and Australia. The bridge is colloquially referred to as the Coathanger[1] because of its arch-based design, although this usage is less prevalent than it once was. The 75th anniversary of this iconic bridge was celebrated on March 18, 2007.
The bridge was the city's tallest structure until 1967. According to Guinness World Records, it is the widest long-span bridge in the world and is the highest steel arch bridge with the top of the bridge standing 134 metres (429.6 feet) above the harbour.[1]. It is also the fourth longest spanning arch bridge in the world.

The harbour bridge is right on the CBD as a main crossing where everyone is saying.
However, the RTA and NSW government recently sold the bridge for scrap, to a Chinese businessman, to help with material shortages in the building boom there. I think the government are waiting to make a final announcement after the federal election. It is anticipated a ferry service will be introduced to supplement the harbour tunnel, thun making the bridge obsolete.
The bridge will be dismantled from April 1 2009.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The bridge joins the city of Sydney (at Dawes Point) to the North Shore (at Milsons Point) obviating the need to travel by ferry or make a substantial trip around the harbour foreshores towards Parramatta and back.
