Its better to speak your mind and let ppl know how you feel than to take crap of ppl...so go for it. I like your avatar!

Speaking your mind definitely has it's place. Being diplomatic does as well. If you'll notice, I'm not necessarily acknowledging the "sugar coating" - not my style either. Sometimes being a good friend, spouse, child (even adult child), relative, etc means putting someone else's feelings ahead of your need to freely express yourself. So, in answer to your question...
No, it isn't wrong when honesty is needed.
And, Yes, it is wrong when you are causing someone else unnecessary pain or doing it at someone else's expense.

I believe in speaking of ones mind, but a matter of "how" we choose to use our speech, that impacts others. If we choose bold and beautiful, we must also consider other peoples feelings within this approach, if we choose soft, subtle to the point, with some positive notes, we may encourage positive results...
I hope you are able to see the differences...as with hoping this helps you communicate in a healthy aspect.

I'm from the same school of thought. I think honesty is what people should hear. What I learned from this is, pick and choose how you present your feelings. Make sure you are comunicating exactly what it is you want to say (Think before you speak). That includes your audience to be in full understanding.

it is not that you need to sugar coat things, but change the tone in which you say them

Nope, nothing wrong with being honest ............. just try your bestest not to be cruel and insensitive ........... there are ways of getting ones point across without resorting to insensitivity.
