Elephants are killing no more people per year than they have any other year. What makes it seem different is how quick and easy media is to spread. Look at the billions of random facts, videos, blogs, etc that float through the web every day... news is far simpler to get now than it was a few years back.
Anyway, most of the time when elephants kill people it is either by accident or in defense of the herd. They are not going out and hunting down humans. There have been cases of rogue bulls causing problems, but nothing like killing humans willy-nilly.

Considering the way elephants have been treated-not to mention killed in many parts of the world, I wouldnt blame them for acting evil. If an elephant kills, they usually have a very good reason. We may not know what the reason is, but they arent primarily predatory. I watch Animal Planet too much.

I love Elephants. They live a very long time and have a very high intelligence. It is said "Elephants never forget." They do make choices by what seems to be intelligent decision. It would stand to reason, they also can dislike a person or the actions of a person and take defense or revenge. Killer whales are also thought to be capable of this thought process.

Another issue is gender and social hierarchy. I think elephants have maternal-centric "society", and older females keep younger aggressive males in check. When poaching and territorial encroachment by humans puts herds under stress, a loss of older female herd leaders can lead to packs of young males doing damage and rampaging, including targeting humans. I think the New York Times Magazine did a big article within the last 6-9 months.

Elephants arent evil! They are actually sweet natured, yet steriotyped, big creatures. The only ones that are turning on humans are ones that live in hunting and tracking zones. They detect danger and immediatly, their instincts take over and they might become violent, but if they aren't in danger or threatened, they are fine. We are working on a way to track elephants without having physical contact with them to put on the tracking device. It is a hard task, if you have suggestions, visit our website, you probably know it. We are the "world wildlife Help descover" program. Remember: elephants are mnot evil, they only defend themsleves.

They live long lives, and have good memory and intelligence...they remember the bad and threatening things that some humans had done to them or to their relatives, and rightfully stand up against it, they may have learned not to trust humans for real reasons. Also, elephants in captivity might take just so much abuse before their resentment boils over and they revolt. (sort of like the American Revolution) Can't blame them really, if they let out the stress and abuse that humans had done to them.

First off, elephants are WILD creatures, that should have never been introduced into circuses etc. They should have been left alone to be free, happy, healthy beautiful animals. Now not only are we exposing, and abusing them for entertainment, and even killing them for tusks, village people are destroying their homes and elephants are very very smart animals. They have had it! Alot of elephants do not kill for no reason. They kill because they are sick and tired of being abused by humans.

Elephants have always been "evil." Elephants have caused more deaths by trained animals than any other in the last century.
Of course, "evil" is not accurate. They are just big, powerful, and very, very heavy. And nowadays, they are more in contact with people, many of them innocent, many of them stupid.

studies show that elephants are capable of enacting "revenge-like" feelings. for no apparant reason, male elephants in "must" (a time period where testosterone-levels are EXTREMELY high which causes severe emotional 'touchiness.') are purposely terrorizing humans. researchers speculate that elephants are upset about habitat destruction and loss of territory. hope this helps. :)
