I have a pleco, betta, and 8 small neon tetras that all get along VERY well with absolutley no problems. I bought an angel fish yesterday and the man at the pet store said they should get along fine. I was watching my fish this evening and i noticed that my betta was VERY unsettled he generally just floats around the top or he will stay near the school of tetras. I watched more closley and realized the angel fish was following him around and nipping his fins. My betta fins have colors in it I have never seen before in a betta. They are BEAUTIFUL, as you may or may not be able to tell I am not willing to let my betta(who I love and adore the tank revolves around him and what mixes well with him) get his beautiful fins shredded. I also am not going to be able to take him out of the tank since I A) don't have any distilled water and B) don't have a tank to put him in. Is my angel fish just nasty or is this normal behavior? I have him caught in the fish net and it is set so it can't

move and so he can't get out. Is it ok for me to leave the net there until I figure out what to do? would he survive in a bowl over night or does he need to have filtered water? Where can I get rid of him also? I am not going to take my betta out of the tank that he is so happy in and put him in a little cup so that the angel fish that ruined it for himself can swim around. HELP ME!

ALSO: my pet store DOES NOT take back fish unless they are dead
I don't know what to do with him is there away to humanly dispose of him since none of my friends or family keep fish and I don't know what to do with him!

That is fairly typical for angels when put in a tank with a betta. If you have a warm spot (at least 70o) where you can keep the betta overnight, he'll be fine without a heater or filtration. He'll fare far better without these than the angel. Otherwise, I'd suggesting putting a cover over the net to keep the angel from jumping out. Angels are members of the cichlid family and have a tendency toward being bullies, especially as adults. Chances are, yours is still a juvenile. Once an adult, it will probably make a meal of your neons as well.
In the morning (or tonight, depending on where you live and when your store closes) you may want to return the angel and get a less aggressive species.
The good news is that your betta's fins will heal, just keep him in good water quality and keep an eye on the fins so he doesn't develop fin rot.
ADDITION: Since you can't return him, any chance of setting up a second tank and having it for him and other species with a similar temperment (rainbow or red-tailed shark, giant danios, gourami, corydoras, pleco)? A 30 gallon with some plants and driftwood would suit a single angel.

The Angel will not survive in a bowl for any ammount of time, but the Betta will, Angels can be aggressive and if you keep it, the Neon Tetras will soon begin to disappear too. Take back the angel. How big is your tank? If it is less than about 29 gallons, I would suggest getting rid of the Pleco because they can get up to 2 feet long and make a lot of crap!

Tell the people at the fish store that they are taking back the fish they sold you because they gave you incorrect information. It is not entirely your fault they sold you a fish they should have known would be too aggressive for your tank. Don't take "no" for an answer!

The water doesnt need to be distilled just normal tap water will do and the angel fish is natural since its in the semi-territorial and fin-nipper catergory, but they do well in groups of 3 or more its just gonna reduce the problem
sometimes making hiding spots will be great for the betta like a thick group of artificial plants and or ornaments.
But, if you want it with the other fish i sugest getting a bigger tank i say around 30+, um 50+ is best and shocking at same time since the pleco will grow huge around 2feet but the angel fish you can get 2 more perhaps and they will stay in their own territory the pleco and betta stay solo with no problem and the neon stay in their group or mini school.

Angelfish are cichlids, and though they're not the most aggressive cichlids, they are still more aggressive than normal community fish. I would not put the angel in with the betta. For a temporary fix, the betta can go in a bowl overnight, then I'd return the angel to the fish store tomorrow. The angel will not survive in a bowl. I'd also treat the betta prophylactically with some melafix to help the fins heal up. The angel may also eat the neons when it gets bigger, yet another reason to return it.

well, you should probably get another tank and put distilled water in it. if you have a mall nearby, you could find distilled water just about everywhere. easy way is to put your betta is vine bowl ( they look like gold fish bowls) and you could find them in craft stores. Micheal's is a good choice. betta don't necceserily need distilled water, filtered is okay and the closest you can get. tap water can only be 40% if your thinking it. for your neons, i don't know what to do .
sorry. good luck.

I saved a ghost knife fish (5 inch), 2 angel fish, 5 cory cats, and a school of 15 tetras in a fifty 5 gallon. all and sundry develop into basically advantageous. As for feeding... i've got examine, heard, and experienced that the GKF won't devour flake or pellet foodstuff. Mine scarfs up frozen blood worms. He loves the stay ones much extra. he will take the stay ones out of my hand, yet no longer the frozen ones. i desire to objective stay brine shrimp after my next trip to the aquarium save.

angels are often not very angelic. they do nip -- barbs and larger tetras will nip too. they are best avoided with a betta around. you can put an add on freecycle.org and craigslist.com to get rid of him.
how big is your tank? if you can hold a shoal of angels then they will usually keep to themselves. you need like 30-40 gallons to do that though.

I had a beautiful angel fish that did this to my little neon tetras he was very nippy and killed alot of my fish. I eventually got him his own tank that was just big enough for him.

Well, when I had an angelfish he was very agressive. I think they generally get along in pairs. We bought another angelfish and they just swam around each other and there haven't been anymore problems since then.
I also have a bunch of neons, he doesn't pick on them at all anymore.
