Active duty recruiting. Three of the four services exceeded their recruiting goals in May. The Army recruited 5,101 out of a goal of 5,500 (93 percent). The Navy recruited 2,709 out of a goal of 2,709 (100 percent). The Marine Corps recruited 2,225 out of a goal of 1,665 (134 percent). The Air Force recruited 2,451 out of a goal of 2,451 (100 percent).

If these kids did not want to go to Iraq, why enlist?

The military is granting more and more waivers in order to recruit. The Army has granted moral waivers for serious criminal activities such as aggravated assault, burglary and robbery. Also, a recent FBI report points out that more gang members have been recruited into the military.

In addition, the Army is allowing more high school dropouts and has loosened weight and age requirements.

As you point out, in May, the Army actually fell short of its recruiting goal despite the much larger recruiting bonuses and other incentives that it has been offering recently.

I think it was wrong to occupy Iraq from the beginning. Democracy is a process, not a product to export it to other countries. But now after 5 years, with this chaos which is going in Iraq, I think U.S. should stay there to stabilize the situation. If American forces leave Iraq at time like this, Iraq will be a secure home for terrorists. PS So sorry for my English

Because, the media wants you to believe that most americans ae against the war. And its a fact that most of us want to get the job done, and establish a democratic government in the middle east. it is the press that is doing the lying.
just like it is the press, lying about how Americans feel about Illegal Invaders crossing our borders. Most Americans want the borders secured. Period. Once that is done, then talk about what to do with the invaders. but the press twists that all around, and most of their stories, they forget to emphasize ILLEGAL when they mention immigration.
God bless our military! May they come home soon and be stationed on our borders when they do come home.

That's a big "IF" in your question. Obviously, all of America has not adopted the far left's policy of defeat.
I believe there is strong support for our war against the Islamic radicals, despite the constant barrage of rhetoric we receive daily from the left. The Islamic threat is not a scare tactic - the terrorists have aptly demonstrated their resolve in meeting their objectives and they have made their objectives crystal clear.
The war is frustrating and complex - and we don't know if it can be successful. But we do know that our past policy of little or no effective response and no retaliation to the terrorists' terror and indiscriminate slaughter culminated in the events of 9/11.
Best we try and obliterate this ideology of hatred and domination now, rather than let it fester and grow.

No one said that ALL of America is against the US staying in Iraq. It's just that the majority (70+ percent according to polls) is against the US staying in Iraq.

They lowered the standards - these may be kids who didn't get in before, and the natural improvement that lower standards entail. Regardless it doesn't mean they support the war in Iraq.

Is that why they extended the tours by three months? Because so many people are signing up?

No the liberal mainstream news are against the war. They use the power of television to exploit thier political beliefs. I think the majority of americans are still not against the war.

I'm not dissing our brave troops, but if you sweep the cellar floor you'll come up with some rat droppings in your dustpan.

The military has reduced entry requirements to an alltime low.
