it was all one giant circular piece

Usually there are score marks so you could break the block into pieces. I personally don't like the vacation feeders, I think they mess up the water. Fish are fine for a couple of weeks without food.

Two weeks might be stretching it, without food. But you can easily leave your fist about a week without feeding, and in fact they'd be better off than if they were overfed during that time.

Vacation feeders are kind of risky - I've heard they can foul the water, so I wouldn't mess with them. I'd just have a friend come by once or twice to give them a pinch (show them how much) of food and check to be sure the filters and etc. are working properly.

It means that if you want the full 14 days you put the whole piece in, but if you want it for less days you break off a smaller chunk. Good luck.

You should be able to break the piece apart into smaller chunks. It will cloud your water a little, but your fish will be fine.
