in a democracy, all of the people are represented by the state. considering that people in our capital have no representation in their government, how can people be so asinine to call america a democracy?

America is called an indirect democracy. It's a Republic. Representative government. Some people just use the word democracy as a kind of short hand.

It was set up like that for a reason. to keep D.C. out of politics. I.E. neutral when it comes to political issues, or states' issues and politics since it is not part of any state.

Most of them failed high school civics. Either that or they have been paying way too much attention to the television news.
