I just got pokemon pearl and want to have a well balanced well trained party. Any suggestions for some good pokemon that are useful through out the game

i started out with the monkey and it got me through basically everything i taught it two fire moves: ember, flame wheel.

and two fighting moves: Mega Punch, Rock Smash

if fire doesnt work i use fighting moves. this hasnt failed me yet however i do recommend leveling up your other pokemon as well. you will eventually come across psyduck i would catch one of those for a good water type. i used bidoof for just to teach all of my HM moves to and grab yourself a bird type too. it will come in handy. i chose starly for mine. you will also come across and electric cat-like pokemon i cant remember its name but its evolved form is Luxio and he will do justice when it comes to electric moves. just remember to teach him spark when you get it.

For any further information try checking out www.psypokes.com

that site is really really good for pokemon information. it has info on every individual pokemon as well as guides through the games. i dont know if they have guides for pearl and diamond as of yet but they always update the site.

for walkthroughs you could always try www.gamefaqs.com
that site has walkthroughs for basically everything.

i started with priplup, i didnt know then but it will eventually be water and steel so not very many attacks will be super effective(only electric and ground). if u start with that monkey one it will be hard because the first gym is rock/ground and those are super effective against fire.

A balanced team is trying to cover your weakness in your party.
My starting party was: chimchar (fire), shinx (elec), zubat (flying/poison), golem (rock/ground), budew (grass/poison) and shellos (water).
