The majority went to South America, primarily Brazil. The slaves that were originally brought to the Colonies/United States were brought to work in rice paddies. That was found to be not very profitable and tobacco and cotton became the major cash crops.

Nearly twice as many enslaved people from west Africa were destined for the Middle East than across the Atlantic. While it is estimated that around 10 percent of the trans-Atlantic slaves died in route, perhaps as many as 80 percent died while being transported across the Sahara. Most trans-Atlantic slaves were men for agricultural purposes. The overwhelming majority of those destined for the Middle East were women and children to be used as sex slaves.

Prior to the Columbus voyages, there were more raids on European coastal cities resulting in slaves being taken off to northern Africa and the Middle East than the reverse. Nothing can lessen the inhumanity of the slave-trading Europeans, but in order to grasp the magnitude of this wrong we must see the entire picture.

Slavery is a blot on human history and to this day we must fight those who would enslave others. Nowhere in the world, however, have abolition movements been as strong as those emanating from Christian European cultures.

It depends on how you count them. More slaves were taken to the Caribbean than anywhere else. The sugar plantations and other uses there killed them off at a tremendous rate. If you're looking at single countries, Brazil was number one.
