Really thick material use a saw with a metal cutting blade
Rods and pipe use either a hack saw or a reciprocating saw
Anything bigger you may have to take it to a sheet metal shop to get cut.

If you are trying to avoid bending the edges, place it between two boards clamped tightly together. Mark on the board where you want to saw and do it with a hacksaw or other fine-toothed blade saw.

Either use tin snipps if it is sheet metal type or you can use a dremmel tool to cut a rod. A hack saw will work but is slow.

buy a pair of "Tin" snips.. then have at it.. You can use a sharpie marker to draw your lines.. The type of snips matter as they make them to cut straight, left curve or right curve.. Choose wisely...
