Asian eyes vary because they are adapted to different climates. In the cold climate of the Far East, Far East Asians have more fat on their eyelids which causes an inner eyelid fold. (Coon, paragraph 28) This fat warms the eyes, conserving body heat.(Wilson, paragraph 20)(Hotep, paragraph 4) Conversely, in the hot climates of Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent Asians have eyes adapted to heat. These eyes have limited fat above their eyes. This makes their eyeballs look sunken into their skull and the spherical shape of their eyes to stand out clearly.

There might be. Down syndrome is a lesson in genetics. It's quite possible that the gene that controls the shape of the eye is on the 21st chromosome and that's why their eyes do that. There are other things we've learned this way. For instance, people with Down syndrome are less likely to get most types of cancer. Turns out there is probably a gene that resists cancer on the 21st chromosome.

No. The specific chromosome abnormality resulting in Down's Syndrome was identified many years ago. Unless an Asian individual also has this DNA profile, the similarity in eye shape is unrelated. Common sense also would lead you to believe this. Otherwise, the Asian people would be a very intellectually challenged group and we know this just isn't true!

Hi. I do not think Down's Syndrome eyes are similar to Asian eyes. No, there is probably not a chromosomal link between the two.

If you had a link or something talking about why you ask this question....

there is not a chromosomal or genetic relation. both are caused by completely different genetic contributions. Down syndrome is a chromosomal mutation in which another chromosome is present. The Asian eye characteristic is probably found on on chromosome, but is not due to an extra chromosome. Asian eyes are an adaptation to to environmental constraints, so they lost their epicanthic fold.

Yes.it is directly linked to down syndrome or it's first name Mongoloidism.
The Asians didn't like that title and protested to have it removed in 1858 so in 1859 it was changed to it's current name. The truth hurts and the US didnt want to cause an uproar because of this so they had to blame it on a fabrication of information to please the Asian race.

Both Asians and people with Down syndrome have an "epicanthic fold" in their eyelids.

Basically all babies have this in the womb. Down syndrome children sometimes retain it because their eyes stop developing before they lose it.

There are various speculations for the evolutionary reason who Asians retain the epicanthic fold but other groups of humans don't, but they are just speculation.

People with Down Syndrome also have structural abnormalities, such as a large tongue and I think palate changes, which changes the shape of the face, so that they get the characteristic mongoloid (sorry, archaic term) appearance.

Yeah right... all Asians have down Syndrome. Just think how much farther we would lead everyone else in academics if our brains were left to develope to its full potential.
