Tomato plants like a lot of sunny, hot days and lots of water. The best results I ever had was one summer when there was almost no rain (lots of very sunny days) and I gave my 24 plants about 300 gallons of water a week. That, plus some cow manure and chicken dumps combined gave me plants 8 feet tall and hundreds of big tomatoes. I water my plants every day.

If there are too many cloudy days and too much rain the tomato plants will not do well at all. You need lots of sun. Without that, forget about it.

the hole should be about 6 inches deep...if you already have the plant...water andcover the roots with fresh loose soil...If they are of the large size you will need a tomatoe cage to put around it....also I have found that a sprinkle of epson salt sprinkled around the plant helps,,,they are fairly easy to grow...

Earth boxes are a great way to grow any veggie in a small space. I have used them for years.
