Hi,

I have an assignment in which a question is about how a low-power CPU (those in laptops) further reduces its power requirement when its idle. Does anyone know? Any internet sources?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: @ ray_8128: Hmm, I'm not sure man... the question they've asked is "Define, and briefly explain, two of the ways in which a ***low-power CPU*** can further
reduce its power requirement when it is sitting idle". The cpu and not the laptop's power efficiency. Or am I confusing myself here?

One way is by using either Speedstep on Intels or Cool n Quiet on AMDs. This basically lowers the speed of the processor when idle, then lowers the voltage to reduce power. That is one way, as for the other, do a little research on Wikipedia, as I don't know of one of the top of my head. Wish I could have been of more help, but hopefully I got you off to a good start.

Probably looking for going into "standby" or "sleep mode" when idle

Other methods:
Reduce the backlight brightness or turn off the screen
Reduce the processor speed
Idle the hard disk
