Derek Jeter is the New York Yankees. He always come through and does what he needs to do to when championships for the team. He is a great motivator and a team captain that every team would love to have to represent them.
A-rod on the other hand is just a great player.
I would have to say Jeter is better because he understand the team concept of the game, and thats the most important thing.

I believe that Alex is the better player.
I hate comparing these two, because to pick Alex sounds like I'm disrespecting Jeter, which I'm not. What kind of bad stuff can I say about Jeter, a guy who will end up with 3,000 hits, who has an outstanding OBP, and who has been an emotional leader for a great ballclub.
I just pick Alex because his numbers put him among the best to ever play the game. Granted, he took a hit when he moved from shortstop to third, but he also deserves credit for doing it without complaint - not many Gold Glovers would be so easy to talk into such a change. Jeter is also a vastly overrated fielder, despite the Gold Gloves. By any fielding metric, he rates poorly, and anyone who watches the Yanks on a regular basis knows that he's not very good going to his right. Alex is also likely to hold the home run record by the time he retires, and his OPS is over 100 points higher than Jeter's - and that's a significant jump.
I'm sure someone will mention the word "clutch" at some point in this argument, so I'll give Jeter credit - in these situations, his career numbers with RISP and 2 outs, or close and late, are better than Alex (OBP of .417 and .374 to .397 and .363).
The most important thing is that they're both first-ballot HOFers, and I hope Yankee fans realize how good they have it - I'd kill to have either on my team, never mind both.

Actually there is no question in my mind that it is Derek Jeter who is truly the better player. No question about it, ARod has good productive numbers, but then again, so does Jeter. There is something else that you should consider, and that is who is best off the field. ARod is nothing more than a selfish individual who stacks on these impressive stats., and yet he has yet to be on a World Series Team. He brings bad chemistry to the team. Jeter, however, is both well liked and well respected by all. He brings true harmony and leadership to the team, and he knows how to win. In fact if I were to start a franchise and could choose any player at all, no doubt about it, Jeter would be my NUMBER 1 player that I would choose. Take it from where it's coming from, and that's because I am a Boston Red Sox fan!!!!!!

How can anyone seriously say Derek Jeter.
Yeah, he has championships rings. Well, too bad those are the results of a TEAM.
If you individually compare Jeter and ARod skill wise there is no comparison. ARod is by far better.
Jeter has had the better career, simply because of the rings, but talent and just being a baseball player its ARod by a mile.

I don't really like the Yankees but I will admit that Derek Jeter is one of the most natural and talented players in MLB.

Arod is a better hitter and a better shortstop so there is your answer. Jeter is a singles machine and an overrated SS. Jeter is ranked 51st in slugging percentage.
