best nightlife spots in new york?

i'm looking for some recommendations for some places to go out to during the week (nightclubs) in New York. anywhere that plays good music you can dance to (pop/ 90's/ chart) and isn't too pretentious!

Greenwich Village. Start at Washington Square Park. Then walk in any direction - north, south, east, west - and within five minutes you will be in front of a club you are going to really like.
