Better to be too rich than too lean.

If it burns fat (rich) you'll know by visible black smoke in the exhaust.

You should see just the slightest bit of black smoke when you have the mixture perfect.

If you don't have any hint of black smoke, it's too lean.

That old of a motor may be specified to take a 20-1 mixture but I have gone to 50-1 with the oils now available and motor runs better especilly idling.

My neighbor has a 66 Johnson. It is 24:1 ratio but you can go down to as little as 30:1 with no effects.

All 2 stroke outboards which are not oil injected use a 50:1 fuel/oil ratio.
