It's probably not a good idea to try to take the ring. I don't know if it's a felony, but it is against the law to desecrate the body, you're going to have a hard time getting to it. Most states require caskets to be entombed in concrete to protect the water table from the degrading body. Not to mention that you don't want to see a buried body. If it's been more than a couple of days there's going to be some serious bloating and stink going on. You don't want to have that picture in your head.

A corpse, or dead body, is the property of the heirs. What is buried with them was at the discretion of those heirs. Everything in the grave belongs to them. Desecrating a grave is a felony, as well as being totally immoral. You may not understand, but grave robbing is one of the five most disgusting crimes that can be committed. Have some respect for the dead.

Criminal trespass to get to the grave?

Crime.

Vandalism required to get to the corpse?

Crime. Depending on the damage done, a felony.

Defiling a corpse (By unearthing it) Felony.

Stealing the ring?

Depending on its value, felony larceny.

And dude, stealing it from a corpse??? When caught you would recieve NO leniency from a prosecutor or judge.

Have fun in the state penn. Don't bend over for the soap or you'll get yourself a boyfriend.

Grave robbing is still a felony, and you might even get a stiffer sentence, because of society's abhorrence to the desecration of the dead. Would the ring really be worth that?

There would be a couple of crimes involved... First, you'd be entering the property with intent to commit a felony, which is a crime... second, you'd be digging up a grave, which is a felony... and third, you'd be taking property that doesn't belong to you... which is a third felony.

Not worth it... really....

The grave of that person, and anything in it are considered the property of their next of kin. So you wouldn't be stealing from the dead person, but their next of kin.
