While I don't agree with this war and believe President Bush has not been a good president, I do believe we need to finish what WE started.
This is because I believe we will be back in the middle east at some point in time in the future if we leave now. We spent 12 years since the first Gulf War flying missions over Iraq and surrounding the country to enforce U.N. resolutions. It isn't like we were ever gone...just an escalation. Oh yeah...public opinion wanted us to remove Saddam at the end of the first Gulf War, but President Bush the elder decided against it.
Some changes if we leave? A full blown civil war on a much greater scale than what we see today (yes...it is a civil war). The entire world will blame us for the increased bloodshed in Iraq and call on us to do something. Is it the end of the world if we leave? No...but it would harm the U.S.
A hint of this is already being seen in Afghanistan. They have taken on the type of fighting, such as suicide bombing, that has worked in Iraq to turn the American public "off" from the war. I always did wonder why people don't argue about the fighting in Afghanistan like they do about the fighting in Iraq. I guess that one will be argued down the road a bit as the suicide bombers increase their attacks. At the end of the day, the result is the same...people killing people.

Vietnam was NOT about terrorism....ergo, you're dealing with two entirely different types of conflict! If we leave Iraq before there is a semblance of a government set up, anarchy will take over and those who are the best armed will kill off the rest. That scenario makes no sense for the Iraqii people!

so which you quite think of there will be a slaughter if we bypass away? Why could there be? lots of the "sectarian" issues now are assaults on people cooperating with and helping the "occupation" forces. wager who the "occupation" forces are. do no longer tell me the Sunni and Shiia will kill one yet another! those sects stay element via element peacefully in extraordinarily much each united states of america interior the area. actuality: there's a huge Jewish community in IRAN. this finished journey in Iraq has no longer something to do with democracy or freedom for the folk of the area. it quite is approximately becoming a reason (chaos anybody?) to occupy the oil fields and be certain they stay under western administration.

Less of our people killed and the Iraqis will have to account for their own behavior. Once forced to do so, their government and their people will want to make things better for themselves. In turn, prices here will be able to start to drop again. Alot of the price gouging, especially gas has alot to do with the war.

I don't think it will be JUST like Vietnam, but similar.
When we left Vietnam, the North attacked the South and took it over. I am guessing that if we leave Iraq either the Sunni's or Shiite's will gain control of the country. I think that, whoever ends up taking control, they will reject Al Qaeda, and foreign influence on it's affairs.
