I remember my very first time (It was in high school). I must have went 4 years with pads because I was too scared to use a tampon. One day I started my period at school and I asked around for a pad but everybody only had tampons so I was forced to try one. I took a deep breath and gently inserted it. The best advice I can possibly give you is to RELAX when you're putting it in. If you're freaking out, it's going to hurt and you won't be able to get it in. Also, make sure to push it ALL THE WAY IN. As far as it can go. Your finger should be touching your skin. If you get it in and you still feel like it isn't all the way in, take your finger and push it in farther. There has been a few times where I didn't do that and it hurt really bad until I pulled it out and put a new one in correctly.

I would say first relax and take a deep breath. You can put your leg on the edge of the tub and push the tampon in until you get to the ridges that indicate to stop. Also you may have the wrong size meaning you may be using a super when u need a regular. That can be uncomfortable too. If you are having problem with insertion try using a little KY jelly on the tip.

okay... im pretty new at this whole tampon thing too. the first time i used one I had a similar feeling.. i felt it.. alot. This happened because i didn't put it in far enough.
Now that i have worn them a few times I have began putting them in far enough. I know that the first time I put it in I was really nervous, so it was hard to get it in far. Next time you try and put one in make sure you just relax and push it in until the area where you place your fingers is up against your skin.
Also, the posistion in which you are sitting/standing when you put the tampon in may effect how well you insert it. For me, the easiest posisition is with one leg up in front of the mirror... this way I can see the 'hole' and make sure i push it in far enough.
Just remember relax and don't get frustrated it takes awhile to get used to tampons.

1] use one with an applicator, and push it in as far as it will go.
2] Aim towards the small of your back [ about a 45 degree angle ] so it goes the right direction - it should end up behind your cervix, high in the vagina.

just, relax when you put it in and push it in all the way untill your finger tips are touching you and then push the little thing on the end to let the tampon inside you. I request playtex gentle glide, you cant feel them at all!
