oprah. she had tons of followers back when madonna was big. oprah has more followers now whereas madonna is finally fading away. sorry ms ciccone, your time has come

I would've said Madonna up to the mid 90s because she had a lot of things going on. Madonna on Oprah's show is going to be a big rated show, but she has to be on the show.
She just makes a lot of money off of her concerts now.
From mid-90s (from her beef "beef" that introduced us to Dr Phil) to more recently, Oprah's the more powerful because her hands are in a lot of different places.

Oprah. She uses the media in a positive way and has talent.
Madonna uses the media to sell her mediocre CDs. honestly, she has only garnered #1 hits by causing controversy around her videos. Example: the burning crosses in "Like a Prayer" caused uproar and attention was given to her; this helped that song hit #1. Another example: the erotic scenes in "Justify My Love" caused the same thing and people reacted by buying the single to see what the commotion was all about.
It had been admitted that she has a short vocal range and sings meaningless lyrics (seriously, listen to them, they are sparse and have no substance).
