I don't think that it was all that different from today. We have plenty of diners and rock and roll. I think the reason people view these times and before as "nostalgic" is that we seemed more innocent at the time. I really don't think that people were quite so innocent, though, they just didn't discuss certain subjects as openly as they do now. One of the reasons that we're willing to be so much more open now is that there is such a large option of medias to receive information through at any given time so we're all aware of what goes on in the world.

It depends on what part of the country you were or are in that would place you in a diner. Many areas have small cafes or smaller restaurants that can have a similar flavor. Yeah, the 60's and 70's were a simpler and more easy going era. Would be nice if some people today could revisit that time and learn to slow down and relax a little.

I did live in the sixties and it was a blast. We weren't to diner oriented more small bars and large concerts. We would see three good bands friday saturday and sunday and party during the week and on weekend days. Rock and Roll was king and our lives realy revolved around the music. Quite a bit of drug use as well. Generally just pot and hash. Truly a fun decade. I am 57 now and living in Vietnam. I wouldn't mind going back to that time of my life. One more roll of the dice.

A lot of chaos in the '60's: Drugs, sex and rock 'n' roll revolution, Vietnam, accepted norm changed drastically. Diners were often old train or trolly cars. Music was good, but better now.

Did the diner bit, even found one that served dinner for $2.50. Not much of the other stuff tho.
We went to diners until the mid '90s when I went to Asia (looks like) for good.

It wouldn't have been fun as ignorant people couldn't think for themselves. They were followers instead of leaders.
