It's seriously rediculous. It's because the casual ESPN fan outnumbers the real baseball fan. The same reason why Victor Martinez might not make it there and David Ortiz will make it as a first baseman even though he has one game played at first. We should go to an electoral vote and rule out other countries. If the winner of the game determins home field advantage in the world series, then mlb has find a better way of voting in players. And as far as Youkilis sarting, no. He's an over achieving bench player. Casey Kotchman has suprisingly been the best so far this seaon especially with the glove.

Unfortunatly, the All-Star game's concept is that it's a game for the fans. If the majority of baseball fans want to see all the Red Sox and Yankees play all the NL mediocre players, then that's what they are going to get. But the concept of deciding home field advantage for the World Series based on the results of a "fan game" is the stupidest idea MLB has yet to offer. That's the only downside I see. Other than that, the All-Star game means nothing really and people should stop whining about it.

The Red Sox and the Yankees are the two most popular teams and usually have the most talent on their teams. Players who are All-star regulars usually get into the game no matter what kind of season they're having just from fan loyalty. Fans only vote on positional starters and the 30th player of each roster. The manager of each team selects the bench and pitchers.

It is because the fan votes IS what really counts. I do think that there are players that really deserve to go to the all stars. Well, David Ortiz isn't going to the all stars...he chose not to go. The other player on the red sox that I would like to see go is Mike Lowell. He is having a good season and of course freaking A Rod is starting at third. It's practically a popularity contest...not really skill...i think. It's one big overrated team...lol. But it's the fans if you want a certain player to go to the All stars go vote.

Because the game is for the fans. The players that the fans want to see are the ones who get the votes.
Devyn you are mistaken. The fans vote for only the starters and the manager chooses the rest of the team and all of the pitchers including the starter.

the all star game is meant for the fans. its that simple, the honor isnt achived by putting up the best numbers, but that certanly helps, but is acheived by popularity. and playing in a big market gets a player more exposure. And further more the reps from the sox and yanks are legitamate all stars, cmon, if you truly dont believe guys like ortiz, jeter,Arod, ramirez,( just to name the obvious) are not all stars then you are biast and have no concept of the game

The only thing I think is a bunch of crap with the All-Star voting is that David Ortiz leads 1B in votes. He's a DH! He definitely deserves to be an All-Star, but he's taking a spot away from another player (presumably Youkilis, who's having a helluva year). I know they fixed that "mistake" (sort of) at their request but it's still a bunch of crap.

Cabrera has 4 errors and jeter has 11 errors in a team that doesn't have a winning record and like 10 games outta 1st place
unfortunately this game is for the fans and the most popular guys win a spot

I know, I know, it's only a popularity contest.
Mostly the best players don't get enough votes.
Well, at least the managers get to choose the
pitchers. {i think they still do}. Go ahead and
enjoy the game. {if those on the east coast
can stay awake until the end of the game.
