Everything is an illusion in the relative world.
In the world of the absolute, love is all there is. It is the purest essence of being. It is a soul's knowing of it's utter magnificence.
On Earth we are desperate to create that magnificence so we attempt to capture the affection of another in exchange for affection. We forget who we are in the presence of the beloved. It is bound to fail b/c we cannot maintain it & thus become dissapointed in the other b/c we are also dissatisfied with ourself.
We look externally for what we think we need when in reality we already have what we need within ourselves.
Love is knowing your prefection & allowing others to know theirs.

Well, I would say -
LOVE is a SUM of EVERYTHING- it's felt as an Emotion & grows from there as a Feeling & while in the process of growth it expands & encapsulates a bit of all that makes the pieces of our real & illusive world to form an unique identity of its own which is a bit Logical & a bit Emotional all at the same time- Logical to be Undeniable & Emotional to be Unfathomable. And so because of its many contradictions it's so difficult to define as a concept or as an emotion & I believe it'll always remain so as long as our reality & illusions both survive as a vague yet clear phenomena which can only be felt with our existence but could never be described adequately beyond that...

I know the answer to the question "What is love," but divulging it would be a major blow to the popular-music industry. They are already reeling from the effects of intenet file-sharing and untalented songwriters. This could be the final nail in their coffin. So I'm keeping mum.
