About ten years ago, I knew a woman who did this. I believe the squirrel was sick/injured and she took it in. when it got better, it didn't want to leave so she kept it as a pet. It acted as a cat would. I'm not sure what she fed it, and other details like that though. And I haven't spoken with her for a long time so I dont' know how everything turned out.

Nobody should ever try to make a wild creature into a pet. Ask a forest ranger sometime...it's best to just enjoy them where they are, photograph them if you can, put out snacks if you wish to encourage them to visit you often...but leave them right there in Mother Nature's lap! p.s. ground squirrels and other little rodent-type guys also can carry rabies, ticks that can give you Lyme disease, etc. If you really want a small furry pal, get a pet-shop gerbil or hamster and a cage with a wheel, etc., but leave the wild pals out there.

If you want rabies! Personally, I don't think you should do it because many wild squirrels have unknown diseases and are hard to control. They could bite you or someone you love, which in turn might get infected, and it could turn out very badly. As much as I love squirrels and adore them, capturing them from the wild and trying to house-train them does not sound like a good idea. Go to a zoo and visit some tamer ones instead!

An adult won't make a good pet, because it is hard to tame them after they grow up. You may be able to get him to be clam, but he may run away if you let him out of the cage.

no. all wild animals should remain that way. Enjoy them from a distance, this way they live a happier life and you don't have to pay for the food, vet bills and any other associated costs.

No, they can't be tamed and they also can carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans (bubonic plague is actually one).
