I think that those marriages that lasted 60+ years were full of heartache too...it is just that women (and men, yes) didnt feel like they could escape a bad marriage and had to stick it out. The sad fact is that 50% of marriages fail.

I often get discouraged at the sanctity of marriage in the modern world becuase it seems people just want to get married and don't care about staying married. I totally agree with your statement, marriage just isn't what it used to be and I suspect thats probably why alot more couples choose to cohabitate together rather than getting married because marriage is just a way to screw one another over in the end. Anyways, I too like you want to get married someday, I guess the only thing we can do is try and make sure we are getting married for the right reasons and with the best of intentions. Good Luck :)

I agree with you. People today go into marriage with the idea, that if we don't work out I can get a divorce. In the old days people got married for better or worse. No matter what the circumstance they stuck it out and WORKED AT IT. I heard a preacher on the radio say God toke "a" rib from Adam not "some" ribs from him. We all have one person out there just for us, Most people rush into marriage, they don't take the time to really get to know their perspective mate.

The only difference about today verses yesterday is money.
No one had money to get divorced back in your grandparents day.It was easier to stay married and by doing so that's when it would grow into love.Everyone thinks when the feelings go it's over,it's not over if you give it time.In the beginning it's lust not love, lust can grow into love if you give it time and not run into someone Else's arms for that new feeling. Men more then women want that feeling of lust to stay.
Around the second year is when everything starts to fall apart
and if he hasn't married you by then odds are against the two of you ever getting married because the newness and lust is just about over.If he does love you then he will stay with you .
Answer to your question is ( SELFISHNESS )

If you WANT to be happy and Married..THIS IS NOT where you want to be reading...well at least not for single women or men
THIS IS the haven for those who married stupid, early and got cheated on...among other things...most of us have been married long enough that we can relate to the stupid simple stuff...there are no surprises for those married for 8 years with 2 kids.,..we've seen pretty much everything..

I agree. Marriage is a huge risk nowadays. People cheat, steal, lie & betray others more then ever. Very scary.

I disagree, you get out of it exactly what you put into it. That applies to BOTH parties. Nowadays people are all about self and finding the easy way out.
