An ideal dress for a college ball?

Question

My college is holding a ball in a couple of months (so it will still be winter) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about what would be a suitable dress for such an occasion. I'm 5'3 (160cm) with a slender/curvy build and dark brown hair and olive complexion. I haven't ever been to a ball before and so I don't know what people like to wear. Any help/suggestions would be mos appreciated!

i think it would be most like long length prom style, but in classy colors

i know that it s very confusing what to wear in a ball esp when it s ur first...so from my experience... i think keep it simple and fresh. always match the colour of the dress to ur eyes & hair so a champaign-gold dress would be great...wear a simple silk dress it will show ur figure much more and it is very elegant ...a sans brutelle is a great chouice show off ur shoulders and wear big earings but no necklesses believe me it is all about the accessories.
whether the dress is short medium or long, this depends on ur mood. a long dress would make u look a bit older and a short one will lose its elegance so commpromise it a have it just below ur knees....and believe me if u have a good figure anything will look good on you ENJOY

Balls are formal
Here is one idea: floor length-empire waist-sleeveless with a cropped jacket out of velvet. Go with the Fall colors to match your hair, like coppers, auburn's, deep green would be beautiful

i would wear somethin silky, long, sort of flowy, kind of like a very elegant cocktail dress. just be sure u dont go too extravagant, b/c then people will for sure know you've never been too a ball b4. but jsut keep it simple and elegant. and remember...MODEST IS HOTTEST!(lol) good luck!
