The answer to this question pretty subjective. It would really depend on what you use your phone for and how badly you want an iPhone.
If you are on a different carrier than AT&T, is your contract already up? If not, you'll have to pay a premium to cancel your plan and jump ship to AT&T.
How deep are your pockets? AT&T will REQUIRE a $40 data plan along with a voice plan of your choice as well as a 2 year contract with each iPhone sold. That said the iPhone itself is $499-$599. So that in itself is a hefty amount of money, especially if you aren't already an AT&T customer and your contract isn't up.
How much does touch typing mean to you? The iPhone has no physical keyboard, so if you're used to a blackberry or windows mobile equiv. you're going to have to get used to the touch sensitive screen and soft keys.
The article below has some good info for you:

Since the phone won't be released until the 29th of June, I can't tell you every con simply because I am unaware of them. However the one con that I can infrom you of is the price. The 4gb starts at $499 and the 8gb starts at $599. Now as far as the pros go, I am aware that you have the capabilities to check email, surf the internet, and listen to music on this phone. For more detailed information, check out my source.

It doesn't have 3G...I was waiting to buy it until I found out today that it doesn't have 3G built in. I am going for the Nokia E62 instead.
