this is my dilemma. I have a linksys wireless router. Xbox 360, desktop and laptop downstairs. The desktop, laptop and xbox all have wireless adapters. I have another desktop that I want to put upstairs. I do not have an adapter for it (yet). I am seeing a NETGEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet Adapter #2 on it. Do I need to go buy another adaptor or is there some other way i can get the internet (upstairs)?

The Netgear FA311 fast ethernet adapter is a network interface card that can run at 100 Mbps; fast ethernet is 100 mbps. This is NOT a wireless adapter.

If you want to connect to this, you need to run a CAT5 cable, with straight wiring, from the router to the pc. The cable plugs into a wired LAN port in the router and into the FA311.

If you want to connect wirelessly then you need to purchase an 802.11 a/b/g compliant wireless adapter, install it in your pc, and configure it to work with the wireless router. You don't need a cable in this case.

Either keep going wireless or you can buy a linksys adapter. You can also consider home network wiring your house.
