I offered the idea to my grandmother to get a new computer monitor because it takes up too much space. So I went to BestBuy.ca (since she is a Canadian Resident) and found a monitor. Then I went to see how much it would cost for a Geek Squad person to do it. WAYY too much.
I am the computer techie in the family and everyone asks me to do stuff to the computers. Is it possible for me, a 13 year old girl, to hook up a new monitor? I am very good with computers and done many things but not this. I usually have a little help from my parents but my dad is in Napa Valley on his honeymoon and mom is back at home.

Can I do it? Or is it just best to pay up the money to get it done for us?

Also...the CPU is a Compaq. Do I need another Compaq monitor? Or can I use a different one?

All of this is sounding so easy but there are so many WIRES! haha. I think I'll do fine and when we get the monitor I'll just ask a neighbor for help =)

Well, the alternative to getting a team of 5 people to haul it into place is to do it yourself although you may be a little old to deal with something as high tech as this:
1 Disconnect the old monitor, noting where the cables connect on the wall or computer.
2. Lift the monitor out (and if it is old enough, it may weigh so much that help is useful.)
3. Set the new monitor in place, but sideways so you can see the connections.
4. Run the various cables to the right places. Some new monitors have speakers and thus require sound connections which may not be true of older ones. You do not need to connect these, but they should be color coded.
5. Turn the computer on
6. Align the monitor with the edge of the desk so the user can see the screen.
7. Get a large bee.... soda and enjoy the view.

I think a 13 year old girl could hook up a monitor, but I'd have a grownup move the old one and set the new one on the desk. then all you have to do is plug the power cord into a power socket, then plug the monitor into the back of the computer where the old monitor was. sometimes a CD with software or drivers will come with it. To load that just put the CD into the drive.

Im not good with computers and dont really know a whole lot about them.....but this is actually super easy. There is an electrical cord and then the cord you connect to the back of the computer.....so just unplug the old one and plug the new cord in the exact spot you took the old one out of and then plug the electrical cord in, and you are good to go.

From Napa Valley I say yes you can, nothing to it just hook the monitor to the back of the computer and in the power outlet and you're done.

plug the monitor into the computer, then plug in the power cord then turn on the computer. Normally, your operating system will accept a new monitor with no problem.

Don't Pay! It's very easy you just unplug the old one and plug in the new one. There is two wires one to the wall outlet and the other to th back of the computer. VERY EASY I am sure you can do it! Just go for it!

Absolutely! It's just 2 plugs and they each only fit into ONE place on the tower (each plug has a different shape). You almost can't mess it up.You can do this with no help at all. It's very easy.
