A jewelry maker (since a jeweler is often a watch and jewelry repairer) can make a copy in silver. Depending on the design of the original, the could start with a mold and a wax copy which would be worked for details then cast in silver which would then be worked to cleanup the casting to final standards.

Why not just make a ring out of silver and eliminate the need for the nickel ring? I don't get it, a silver ring costs like $20, just buy one.

NO, He will most likely sand the nickle down and the give it a sterling silver coating. I had this happen to a couple of my friends earings that she thought would be nice if they were made of nickle.

A jeweler probably won't waste their time with sterling silver, but they may plate it with platinum or white gold.
