Everything is bad right now. The Bible tells us why at Revelation 12:9-12. That Scripture tells us about how Christ hurled Satan from heaven down to the Earth. It tells us woe for the Earth and for the sea because the Devil has come down to us having great anger because he knows that his time left is short.
Basically, the Devil influences (not control--influences) our actions if we let him.

Public schools really aren't bad. It's people like GW Bush who take away the funds of the schools that are in most need! Just because a school has low tests scores does not mean that the teachers or administrators are at fault. If these schools are in low socioeconomic areas the students are the ones at fault and their parents!. These types of schools have students who don't have good attendance and are in need of medical, and psychological help many times. The children come to school malnourished and poorly dressed. They are ill or just don't bother going to school for one reason or another. The behaviors of the upper grade students are despicable and many times the teachers have to be police guards and hope they make it through the day without getting injured or worse. How can anyone learn anything with those conditions?
Bottom line is the president better wake up and start giving schools the help they need and stop blaming the educators! But no-- what does he do? He takes the financial help away to punish them more and gives it to the private schools! This is totally unacceptable. He claims that vouchers will help the poor be able to go to the school of their choice. This is a big fat lie as the vouchers will not cover the total cost of the private schools. It probably will only help the rich out by bringing the cost down. The poor will still not be able to afford it. For that matter many private schools are so expensive that even the middle class can't afford them with the help of vouchers! The ones that are not terribly expensive are not good schools. They lack many of the wonderful programs and services that the public schools have. The money needs to fund public education. After all it is coming from the public! The schools need smaller classes etc. to help work with these students who are at risk.

I think public schools are great but I think the system that funds them is wrong. The things is that funding is based on the people with in the district that pay taxes-so if you happen to be from the poorer side of town then the public schools there will probably have less funding for extra curricular activities and even less money for technology and for the upkeeping of their facility, less books in the library, more disgruntled (low paid employees)... You get the picture.

I agree with the person that doesn't think they are bad. I think that we have a lot people sitting around saying how bad they are, but they don't give any examples and they don't offer any solutions. I just formed a website called Good Schools where I think that we can discuss this further if anyone is interested. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Goodschools/
