Nowadays, it is said that The United States of America is the only remaining superpower in the entire world. But it is said that every empire comes to an end. Do you think this will happen? (I mean, if it is going to end being a superpower before the end of the humanity)

There is a LOT more to being a superpower than just having a gigantic military. Our industrial base is pretty much gone. Our economy is in serious straits, in debt over a trillion dollars to Communist China. Our military, as large and as good as it is, is strained with Iraq and now the leadership is making noises like it wants to attack Iran, too, and start up the very expensive Cold War with Russia again. When Rome died its military was strong, but the guts of the Empire had rotted away due to bad leadership. People seem to think the US is eternal, that it actually was blessed by God and can continue as #1 forever no matter how self destructively it acts. It can't. That was exactly what England thought as World War One started, and it was that war that made England poor and the US rich, at least until recently.

China is the real up and coming superpower. They are only beginning to exploit the immense reserve of people power and natural resources. In this new day, it is more important than ever for a persons to recognize the transformation of this nation which has 1/2 of the worlds population. America, while still a superpower will pale in comparison to China in the next 50 years.

Think about it, what does super power really mean these days? Best GNP? Best military hardware ? Being the world's police force??

As far as I'm concerned, trying to maintain our "superpower" status is what has caused the massive expansion of our federal government. Military spending is over half of the United States discretionary budget and we are fighting other peoples wars (like the sectarian BS in Iraq) . If there is a way to get the U.S. off the superpower spending, I'm all for it. The sooner, the better. Let other world powers spend their citizens hard earned tax dollars on foreign endevors.

Yes. The United States is not going to stop being a superpower soon unless it is actually conquered, but within the next decade or two I expect China to become the next United States, so to speak. After that....well, no doubt it will eventually coalesce into one giant civilization along with all the other countries on Earth (and whatever countries exist on other colonized objects such as the Moon).

i think of interior the close to destiny we can see 2 superpowers being the rustic and China. From this bipolar subject China will then emerge as the dominant large ability as their political and financial rules replace to mirror their boom in economic device and ability. the rustic won't finally end up being the only superpower.

Its over already.
Look the USA invaded two defenseless 3rd world countries and cannot defeat or subdue either one of them.
The Russians are re-emerging.
Chavez spits right in Bush's face very day.
Alqaeda has been awarded #2 superpower by Bush himself.
Cuba has survived 50 years of American punishment.
N. Korea Iran and everybody else tells America to pump sand..
And China's laughing all the way to the bank.

America is a declining superpower, yes. It's already in its decadent phase. There's no telling how long it will last - it's already lasted longer than I'd have expected 20 years ago. It might fade gracefully from prominence in the world stage, like Brittain did, or it might virtually collapse, like the Soviet Union - or it might rot from within and be destroyed from without, like Rome.

I'm hoping I don't live long enough to find out.

Absolutely we will always be a superpower. However if libs keep congress, and get the presidency, they may help make the rest of the world (or at least those terrorist coutries) superpowers as well.

The US will be a superpower for decades to come. I hope we make the switch from an offensive power to a defensive one. The cowardly con chickenhawks who never served a day in the military and have erectile dysfunction will oppose this.

Yes, financially, they are bankrupt pretty well...thus the need to conquer takes on new urgency.

It's in situations like this that alliances come into play, but often with a high cost...America has done this before.

I agree with you ONE LEG...China is awfully quiet right now but you wait...they got all our business, own a lot of our land/banks, etc....who knows...good think we're only around for less than a century isn't it? We sure see enough in that time.
