I have a cousin that is as tall as me but when it comes to basketball, he could dunk in an 8.5 feet basket and I could barely reach 8 feet. How can I jump higher, if I lose some weight, will I jump higher?
I am 120 and he is 110

If you are 120 years old and he is 110, you could probably hang it up as far as dunking.....but if you mean pounds, that really don't have much to do with it, you need to build your legs and thigh muscles, and do squats as much as you can, you should notice a differance sooner than later.

Your body weight doesn't hold you back from how high you can jump completely. What you need to do is workout the muscles in your legs that will get them strong enough for you to jump higher. Just make sure these workouts don't make you slower because that will hinder your jumping ability. You should do some research on which exercises are right for you.

For my basketball team, we would jump onto the edge of solid metal boxes with rubber matting on top, and then jump back off. We would repeat this about 20 times and then move onto a taller box. After a few weeks our vertical jump had increased by a couple of inches.

Good luck!

do calf lifts every morning in the shower and before you go to bed.You should do 3 sets of 30 before you go to sleep and do about the same when you are in the shower or just when you wake up. Also do sit ups. Your abs help with your jumping. In about 2 weeks you should be dunking.

Yes, less weight to propel with your jump. However you can get all the angels covered by working out your jumping muscles, i.e. quadriceps, hamstrings, and gastroc/soleus (calves). Things like Squats, Lunges, Leg Press, etc should really help as well.
