I need advice. I have to make a decision, by today, whether I want to accept an offer to go to a fully paid Masters of Business Taxation program, and am puzzled if I should go or not.

On the plus side, it means more opportunity, better pay, and, (along with a requirement of 5 years of accounting experience,) I can be hired as an accounting professor (I would MUCH rather teach than be in a cubicle all day, so, this is an opportunity to provide that)

On the negative side, it means a lot more school and intense studying etc (which I don't like), ****** professors, and a subject matter that doesn't really interest me all that much.

I'm a creative soul by nature, but, I decided to go into accounting because 1)it slightly interested me and 2)I know it's a stable job that will provide a steady flow of income, unlike some other creative career paths.

I just don't want to waste my life doing something I don't care about.

If you were in my shoes, would you accept this offer?

You sound pragmatic, and that's a good thing. You have been given a real opportunity here. I would take it.

There will always be time for other pursuits. You may even discover what they might be while at college.

Setting the foundation for a solid future is vital, and not enough of us do it. Don't squander the opportunity for a free ride to a great education. Not many of us get it.

Listen to your instinct. I believe it's telling you to go for it. Nothing is easy, no matter what your field of study. As you have already stated, this field of study offers more than one kind of opportunity. You never know where it may lead you.

Good luck to you, whichever way you decide.

Let me start out by saying....life is a journey...you don't have to do the same thing for the rest of your life. If your so creative then you already know that. So do what you can with what you've got now....make a choice, follow your heart...and then once you've got something under your belt sort a speak I'm sure that there will be other directions you can take all this schooling and knowledge to another level, that's different.

An interesting dichotomy to say the least....

If you are YOUNG.. IE early-mid 20's, I'd take the offer and here is why....

The education is PAID FOR and even if you dont pursue a career with the company that is paying for the Masters, the education will serve useful to you for a LIFETIME. Use the Masters as a stepping stone to be accredited AS A TEACHER, and teach if you want.... OR... serve in business for a period of time AND teach classes as well.

Use the extra $$ you earn to make yourself a plan to do the things you WANT to do, and save away to FUND such a plan. After you sock away enough cash, your choices become MUCH more diverse and easier to attain.

Be SMART and make SMART goals for yourself.

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Time-Oriented ( MOST important..LOL)

EXAMPLE::: My business partner was the CEO of an $80MILLION company AND he taught college level business classes at SUNY in New York whilst maintaining his responsibilities with the company he ran.

It all boils down to time management and organizational skills. Being in the accounting field, you automatically have a step up on most others in that regard....

Have some faith in yourself. Take the leap. At least you wont have to deal with woulda/coulda/shoulda's 30 years down the road even if the choice takes you down what ends up being the wrong path for you.

Money is not the key to happiness! However, we all have to go through things we don't like, to get where we want to be. If you want to teach & Accounting is what you want to teach, I say go for it. If that's not what you want to teach or it's something else completely that you want to do....don't go to this program & figure out what you have to do to get you into a profession that makes you happy. I'm sure the thought of a fully paid program seems like a good idea but, it's pointless if you're not gonna be happy with where it takes you!

You seem like a bright individual, you know what your likes and dislikes are, and you have weighted the pros & cons.
If I was in your shoes, I would thank them for the offer, but let them know I was not ready to make that type of a commitment at this time.
Don't get stuck doing something you are not happy with, it will negatively affect many other aspects of your life.

No I would do something I love, I wouldn't waste my life doing something I hate just because it pays more than a job I actually like. But that's just my opinion.

I would turn it down. You already sound like you don't want to do it and you haven't even started. FIVE MORE YEARS of school is a long time. Turn the offer down and find something that makes you REALLY HAPPY!
