Why does Ben dip the coin he gives to Abigal Chase in that lime green liquid? What is that liquid?

it is an invisible dye when she handles the button it gets on her hand, and when she touches the key pad she leaves a smudge indicating which keys she touched.

the liquid stayed on her skin and when she typed in the code on the keypad some of the liquid stayed on there. nick cage then used a special light when he was at the keypad and he saw the numbers that were depressed and then they cracked the password to the room with the declaration in it.

I don't know I was wondering the same thing. I think that liquid searches for fingerprints or something, and makes them visible. Or maybe so it cleans it..? I don't know..
