You have to put yourself in their shoes.
The USA is in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Two countries the US is occupying that borders Iran and within easy striking distance. President Bush has named Iran a part of the 'Axis of Evil' and has advocated regime change to spread democracy. The US is expanding its missile shield program to Europe and Israel which would negate any strategic missile threat advantage Iran has. Both the US and Israel, which both have nuclear weapons, are openly hostile (with good reason) towards Iran. Also, Iranian pride is at stake. Being viewed as a nuclear power gives a country a certain level of prestige.
I say Iran is just being plain stupid. If they really were genuine about only wanting nuclear power, they would invite the nuke inspectors back and dismantle their weapons program.

"Why does Iran want to build nuclear bombs?" is the right way to ask the question. They say they don't intend to build nuclear bombs. Last time the American people were told that there was a danger of nuclear bombs it was a lie, it has cost us 3,800 American lives and a trillion dollars so far. SO FAR. And Iraq didn't have anything at all to do with 9-11. So why believe anything those same liars say this time? And even if Iran does want to build some nuclear bombs, isn't that their right? How can we, the US, say we are responsible in their use after starting a bogus war against Iraq? If Iran wants to build nuclear bombs it is not an unreasonable desire, considering what the US did to Iraq, which did not have them.
